Michigan Habitat Network Showcases Expertise at 2024 Habitat for Humanity US Affiliate Conference
Michigan, March 15, 2024 – The Michigan Habitat network made a resounding impact at the recently concluded 2024 Habitat for Humanity US Affiliate Conference held in Atlanta, GA from March 4th to 7th, 2024. Over 40 representatives from Michigan Habitats and Habitat for Humanity of Michigan attended the conference, showcasing the state’s leadership and expertise in various domains related to affordable housing and community development.
From homeowner services to resource development, Michigan’s presence was felt across diverse areas crucial to Habitat for Humanity’s mission. Thirteen individuals from Michigan were not just attendees but also actively contributed as workshop presenters, sharing insights and best practices with peers from across the nation.
Among the notable presenters were Ted Fines from Northeast Michigan Habitat, who enlightened attendees on business continuity planning, and Stephanie Osterland and Britney Johnson from Habitat Detroit, who partnered with Dana Parke from Henry Ford Health and Jerry Zuniga Habitat for Humanity International to discuss the vital connection between health and housing.
Cindy Clark and Kristina Honeycutt from Isabella County Habitat shared their expertise in ReStore operations, sales, and volunteer engagement respectively, offering valuable strategies to optimize Habitat’s retail operations and community engagement efforts.
The team from Menominee River Habitat, Kathy Kulas and Nancy Pellegrini, delivered a presentation on resource development and community leadership, underscoring the importance of forging strong partnerships and mobilizing resources effectively.
Sheila Everts from Jackson Habitat shed light on retaining staff, volunteers, and supporters, a critical aspect for sustaining and expanding Habitat’s impact at the local level.
Additionally, staff from Habitat for Humanity of Michigan, including John Williams, Sue Ortiz, and Anitra Austin, showcased their expertise in board leadership, homeowner services, and homebuyer counseling and financial education, respectively.
The active participation and expertise demonstrated by Michigan’s Habitat network underscored the state’s commitment to advancing Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. By sharing best practices and innovative approaches, Michigan’s Habitat representatives contributed significantly to the collective learning and growth of the Habitat community nationwide.
