Habitat for Humanity of Michigan Announces New President & CEO
LANSING, MI – August 16, 2024 – Habitat for Humanity of Michigan (HFHM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Don Wilkinson as Interim President and CEO, effective October, 1 2024. Wilkinson will serve in this role until a permanent CEO is hired, ensuring strong leadership and continuity for the organization during this transition period.
Current CEO, John Williams, has accepted a position as the CEO of Akron Urban League, announced in a July 26th press release. Williams’ last day as HFHM’s CEO is August 23, 2024. During the transition period between Williams’ departure and the start date of the interim CEO, HFHM’s board chair, Carolyn Bloodworth, will assume leadership responsibilities to ensure continuity in the organization’s operations and initiatives.
Don Wilkinson brings a wealth of experience to HFHM, having spent the past 8 years and 2 months as the CEO of Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity in the Holland, MI area. Prior to his tenure with Lakeshore Habitat, Wilkinson accumulated valuable experience in both the automotive business and building products industry.
During his time at Lakeshore Habitat, Wilkinson led the organization through significant growth and expansion. Notable accomplishments include:
- Increasing home construction from 2-3 houses per year to 16 homes in the 2023/2024 period.
- Initiating partnerships to develop entire neighborhoods, collaborating with Jubilee Ministries to serve households with incomes ranging from 30% to 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
- Overseeing the construction of the organization’s first two multi-family townhouses in the past year.
“We are thrilled to have Don’s leadership during this time of transition. His extensive experience with Habitat for Humanity and his proven track record of success, particularly in scaling operations and fostering innovative partnerships, make him an ideal choice to guide our organization forward.”
Carolyn Bloodworth, Chair of the Board of Directors
Wilkinson expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I am honored to serve as Interim CEO for Habitat for Humanity of Michigan. The experiences and lessons learned at Lakeshore Habitat have prepared me well for this role. I look forward to working with the dedicated team and our affiliates across the state to continue building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter, and to explore new ways to expand our impact.”
The Board of Directors is confident that under Wilkinson’s guidance, Habitat for Humanity of Michigan will continue to thrive and make significant strides in providing affordable housing solutions across the state.
