The 2010 Readiness File application is very similar to the 2009 application.  It does have three new additions:

1.  A declaration on how your affiliate is addressing new state and federal mortgage laws
2.  A declaration on how your affiliate is in compliance with energy and accessibility construction standards
3.  A declaration on whether your affiliate is using the new standard mortgage documents.

If you have questions on the Readiness File, contact Sandy Pearson at Ext. 11 or Nora Holden-Corbett at Ext. 14.

What is the Readiness File?

The Readiness File is an electronic “packet” of information supplied by a Habitat affiliate on an annual basis to HFHM.  A complete Readiness File demonstrates and affirms the affiliate has taken deliberate action to meet Habitat for Humanity International requirements and follows good business practices of a non-profit organization.

  • It is the gateway to all programs and services offered by Habitat for Humanity of Michigan.
  • It encourages sound non-profit managment practices
  • It is adaptable to affiliates of various sizes
  • It protects and leverages our brand value
  • 71 affiliates submitted a Readiness File in 2009.

Why are specific items included in the Readiness File?

The contents of the Readiness File were deliberately selected.  Many items are related to policies your affiliate agreed to comply with when you first applied as a Habitat for Humanity affiliate or when you signed the U.S. Affiliate Agreement with HFHI late in 2007.  Other items are included because they are useful tools to appropriately manage a non-profit organization.  Many items in the RF are synchronized with requirements from other funding sources.  The intent is to permit affiliates to develop policies and documents that will work for the RF as well as other purposes.

It’s the gateway to the programs offered by Habitat for Humanity of Michigan.  HFHM annually distributes $4,500,000 in grants, programs and financial tools to affiliates.  In addition to these resources for affiliate use, HFHM maintains staffing to assist affiliates in accessing and managing our wide range of programs.

Whose responsibility is the Readiness File?

It is the responsibility of the affiliate leadership to assemble the file, know its status and meet all published deadlines pertaining to the File.

Is Readiness File training available?

In 2008, prior to the launch of the Readiness File program, HFHM offered extensive training for affiliates.  Additional training is available upon request.  Please contact Tom Williams to schedule in person training.  We also recommend you download and review our Readiness File Training Power Point.
