IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  • AmeriCorps Members will receive a total living stipend of $6,400, paid biweekly on the 15th and last of the month throughout the member’s term
  • AmeriCorps members receive an Educational Award at the end of the term of $2,887.50, which is good for seven years after receipt and can be used for either tuition purposes or to repay eligible federal student loans.
  • The term of service is from June 2017 – January 2018

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The member at Community Homeworks will support the homeowner repair and maintenance education program, one part of a comprehensive package of programs designed to help low-income families met the challenges of affordably sustaining their homes. The goal of the program is to teach homeowners the importance of maintaining their homes and give them the skills to do so. The member serving in this capacity will:

  • Coordinate and host educational offerings for Community Homeworks families, Habitat for Humanity partners, and the low-income community.
  • Recruit potential applicants for the education program. Partner with other community organizations to expand outreach & recruitment efforts.
  • Assist in the case management process including processing applications, meeting one-on-one with homeowners to guide them through the process and assess their needs, and tracking completion of attendance requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • AmeriCorps members must be at least 18 years old (17 with parent/guardian permission)
  • Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Candidates must be either a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience working with or managing volunteers
  • Customer service experience
  • Knowledge of basic home repairs a plus
