Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a dedicated professional to serve as a Veteran Engagement Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Veterans Build, the Veteran Engagement Specialist will be responsible for developing the capacity of Michigan based affiliates to serve the needs of the state's veteran community and train other state organizations to do the same.
The Veteran Engagement Specialist will work and coordinate with the Michigan State Support Organization (MI-SSO) leveraging the work of current Veteran Build affiliates to develop relationships and training that will increase the number of veterans served throughout the state's remaining affiliates. Additionally, the Specialist will also be responsible for identifying and working with Veteran organizations, state and local government entities, and other non-profits in order to develop the necessary relationships that will enable Habitat to better serve veterans as well as develop exportable training packages to support the 5 neigboring states in developing their capacity to serve veterans.
This position will be located in the offices of Habitat Michigan's State Support Organization in Lansing, Michigan.
** Map resources and analyze current affordable housing context
** Work with the State Support Organization and local affiliates to raise awareness of Habitat's commitment to the veteran community
** Develop close working relationship with the Habitat affiliates, understanding the context in which each is working, their program's goals and the strategies that can be leveraged to better serve veterans
** Identify and develop close working relationship with veterans organizations
** Identify/promote and/or host and facilitate regular meetings that connect housing nonprofits with veterans organizations and support groups
** Identify key actors working toward a collaborative goal and participate in planning for collective impact
** Finalize common goals (with Habitat affiliates and other actors)
** Create efficient systems with affiliates and collaborators to track and measure progress
** Host and facilitate regular meetings that connect housing resources and advocates to veterans organizations and support groups
** Work collaboratively and develop relationships with other social agencies which are beneficial to our Veteran Initiative
** Represent Habitat in the Veteran community through cooperation with other organizations that are promoting home ownership
** Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or Social Services or equivalent combination of education & experience
** 4 years of experience in Program Management, Human Resources or Recruitment
** Excellent written and oral communication skills
** Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
** Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team
** Working knowledge of Microsoft software, internet and basic office equipment
** Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude
** Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task
** Ability to analyze data in service of strategic planning
** Critical analytical skills, especially in situations where the issues are not fully defined
PREFERRED POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
** Military experience
** 3-5 years of experience in a program coordination position
** Demonstrated experience in developing training curriculums
** Demonstrated experience delivering and facilitating trainings
