Shopping Small for Big Impact

Did you know that October is National Women's Small Business Month?

Across America, more than 11 million women are impacting their communities through owning a small business. In fact, nearly 40 percent of businesses in the US are woman-owned, generating an annual revenue of $1.6 trillion and supporting nearly 9 million jobs. Nearly 8 in 10 of woman-owned businesses built over the last nine years were started by a woman of color.

With Small Business Saturday (11/25/17, or the Saturday following Black Friday) and the holidays right around the corner, now is a great time to find and support the woman-owned small businesses in your community. According to data compiled by SCORE, women own 41.8% of retail firms (with even higher percentages in healthcare, education, and administrative firms).

Shopping small during the holiday season has a big impact. In 2016 alone, shoppers reported spending $15.4 billion at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday. That’s a huge boost for local communities and retailers!
