Live from HOMES!

Greetings from northern Michigan, where our collective of construction experts have gathered at the 8th annual HOMES Green Building Summit!

Michigan Habitat for Humanity affiliates are at the forefront of green building initiatives not only in the state, but also in the nation. Just last year, two of our affiliates were recognized by the Department of Energy for their energy efficient building in affordable housing (see here and here). The HOMES Summit gives our construction staff from around the state the opportunity to come together and share their expertise with each other, which in turn makes the homes our affiliates build more energy efficient, more cost effective, and safer.

Over the next three days, attendees will learn the cutting edge technology that is being used in the building trades, including advancements in home heating and ventilation, foundation building, and environmentally friendly building. They can later test their knowledge during the Green Building Smackdown Wednesday evening, and gain bragging rights for the next year by out-smarting their colleagues.

We are thankful to everyone who helped make this event possible, including all of our generous sponsors and exhibitors, the Kettunen Center for hosting us, and especially Thom Phillips, Jessica Rick, and Amber Feldpausch of Habitat Michigan for coordinating the event. We hope if you’re here with us that you enjoy your stay, learn a lot, and take some new tips and tricks back home with you. Thanks for helping us make the HOMES Green Building Summit a success!
