Feel free to contact Sandy Pearson at ext. 11 with your questions and concerns.

What are they?

Habitat for Humanity of Michigan receives the Down Payment Assistance (DPA) awards from the Michigan State Housing and Development Authority (MSHDA).  These funds are typically HOME dollars from the federal government.

Who can apply?

Habitat Michigan seeks applications from Habitat affiliates in good standing during the spring (April deadline in 2009) and makes the award allocations to affiliates shortly thereafter. Affiliates with an approved Readiness File are eligible for this program.

How does it work?

All Michigan affiliates who complete a quality, current and approved Readiness File and are in good standing are eligible for at least one $12,000 DPA award per energy efficient qualifying home during the allocation.  Multiple awards to a single affiliate are allocated on a competitive statewide basis.  The competitive awards are based on the narrative submittals made by affiliates in their Readiness Files.  The funds must be used to reduce the selling price of the house to the eligible homebuyer by the total amount of the award.  This reduction in price takes place during the closing of the house sale and is evidenced in the closing documents.  The award needs to be used by the affiliate within the grant period of one year.
