Sustainable Housing Director
Thom Phillipsis the Sustainable Housing Director with Habitat for Humanity of Michigan. He serves the Habitat affiliates across the state with programs and resources for developing innovative affordable housing strategies. Through cost-effective new home design and construction and conscientious rehabilitation and repair efforts, affiliates offer healthy, durable, comfortable, accessible, and incredibly energy efficient low-income housing solutions. 
A licensed builder since 1988, Thom has also been certified as a RESNET HERS Rater, BPI Building Analyst, FORTIFIED Home™ Certified Evaluator, Level 1 Thermographer, and Certified Aging in Place Specialist. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies in 1979 and a secondary teaching certificate in 1984, both from Western Michigan University. 
His hobbies include playing drums and guitar, biking, hiking, traveling, cooking, maple sugaring and homebrewing. He has been married to his wife Lane since 1988 and has three crazy cats.
